San Diego County Fair: Hoping For Another Accident-Free Year

Craig McClellan

It's that time of the year again: Time for the San Diego County Fair in Del Mar, California. Whether you are going to play pinball (this year's theme is nostalgic games), ride rides, enter into a competition, see the animals or just eat good food and people watch, the fair is a time to have fun and let go of your worries.

If you are going to the San Diego County Fair, we hope you have a wonderful, accident-free time!

When Accidents Occur At The Fair

Most people leave the fair tired unscathed. Yet, as can happen anywhere, some people are injured while visiting or working the fair.

In 2011, for example, a thirteen-year-old girl's fun day at the fair turned frightening when a ride malfunctioned. According to reports from the incident, passengers were exiting the ride when it suddenly and unexpectedly jerked forward, injuring the girl and the ride's operator.

Fair ride accidents are rare. Fair officials noted that the 2011 San Diego Fair incident was the first at that fair in years and there has not been a serious accident since. Yet, injuries happen every year at the Fair, whether someone is injured by another fair-goer, by an animal or while working a food booth.

When someone else's negligence causes an accident at the San Diego Fair or another fair or amusement park in California, the injured person/people may be able to recover compensation through a personal injury lawsuit. A person injured by a fair ride malfunction, for example, may be able to hold the ride's manufacturer and/or operator accountable for the injuries sustained.
