About the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS)
The public transit service provider throughout most of San Diego County is the San Diego Metropolitan Transit System (MTS or SDMTS). This is one of Southern California’s oldest transit systems. Created in 1975 after California Senate Bill 101 was passed, MTD was originally known as the Metropolitan Transit Development Board (MTDB). Its name was changed in 2005 to what is it known today. MTS manages several different services to people throughout the San Diego area, including, but not limited to, light rail, bus, and freight service.
