How the “Best Law Firms” Are Selected
U.S. News and Best Lawyers join together to rank 12,000+ law firms from across the U.S. In order for a firm to be eligible, at least one of their lawyers must be included in Best Lawyers for that specific practice area and metro region. Their official rankings are based on a thorough process. Client and lawyer evaluations are gathered to assess qualifying firms. In addition, specific peer reviews are taken from leading attorneys in the firm’s field. Additional information provided by the firms in the submission process is also assessed.
Clients provided feedback regarding the following components of a firm:
- Legal expertise
- Responsiveness
- Cost-effectiveness
- Civility
- Understanding of client needs
Clients were also asked to assess whether or not they would refer another person to the firm or not and provide any additional comments on their experience with the specific firm. Lawyers were asked to provide similar feedback, including whether or not they considered the firm a valid competitor.
What Does the Tier 1 Ranking Mean?
Since the rankings can be extremely close, U.S. News & Best Lawyers created a tier system instead of ranking the firms in a sequential manner. The first tier includes the metro area’s firm that scored within the closest percentage to the highest-scoring firms. The McClellan Law Firm is proud to have been selected to the Tier 1 ranking as a personal injury, product liability, and commercial litigation law firm in San Diego.
